Say No to MySpace

Back in May 2006, the House of Represenatives lawmakers proposed a bill that would block access to social sites such as MySpace and Facebook in the majority of federally funded schools and libraries. Social sites such as MySpace has made it easier for predators to contact underage teens and children. Thus, the purpose of this bill is to protect the children from predators online and keeping kids off these types of sites.

This bill has already drawn up much attention from all sorts of internet companies online, who claim that the bill has too much of a general definition of which sites should be banned. As important as it is to protect the children from these sites online, this proposed legislation will have to be eventually narrowed. Also, this is not the first time that the law has been concerned for the safety of children. Back in 2000, President Clinton signed a law that filtered inappropriate material from public schools and libraries.
